Guaymas:
Guaymas is a city on the eastern side of the Sea of Cortez. The city is an industrial and shrimp-fishing port and is the principal port for the state of Sonora. The city has many historical attractions; however, many have fallen into disrepair. The city has a well-attended annual carnival which has been held since 1888 and is one of the oldest carnivals in Mexico. Nearby, San Carlo and its beaches are major tourist attractions. During the Mexican Revolution the first aerial bombardment of a naval target occurred just off the coast of Guaymas by the aircraft ‘Sonora’ (more on this in Topolobampo).
