December 2025 – Cruise, Weather, and Holiday Season – Loreto

Loreto:

Loreto is a city on Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula, on the Gulf of California. Its colonial buildings include the Misión de Nuestra Señora de Loreto, a 17th-century church. Off the coast, the islands and waters of Bahía de Loreto National Park are home to dolphins, whales and pelicans. The city is backed by the Sierra de la Giganta mountain range, where trails lead to prehistoric cave paintings

This was our fourth time for Kelly and me to visit Loreto and is one of our favorite ports on the Sea of Cortez. We tendered from the ship and landed at the little marina. We strolled down the Circuito Adofo Lopez Mateos it’s a beautiful boulevard with the Sea of Cortez and the Islas de Loreto on one side, and classical Spanish/Mexican buildings on the other. We turned up the main drag (for the life of me I can’t remember the name) – it’s cobblestone and pedestrian only so very friendly for tourists 😊. Lots of little hotels and craft stores lined both sides with many flowering trees making for a pleasant walk. We got up around the main square and close to the Mision de Nuestra Senora de Loreto Concho – the oldest Mision in Baja and California. The whole street was decorated for Christmas and made for a festive air. We wandered down to the end and checked out some beautiful galleries and stores. We stopped at the Zapata Cantina for a couple of beers and watched the other tourists stroll by. Checked out more stores and then headed back to the waterfront where we stopped for a few drinks at our favorite bar/restaurant Loreto Islas. Then we headed back to the terminal and tendered back to the ship. A lovely day in a lovely town 😊.
