Antigua has hundreds of beaches – 365 in fact, one for every day of the year – and a spectacular coastline. There are many activities to be enjoyed: sailing excursions, relaxing boat rides and island hopping, sunset cruises, exploring hidden coves, ziplining, or just exploring the many stores in St. John’s (the capital) or going to historic places like Nelson’s Dockyard.
Kelly and I had been to Antigua many times – we even got married on the beach there almost 20 years ago – and so we knew exactly where we wanted to go this time – Our favorite beach, Valley Church. We caught a taxi and after a 30 minute drive through the town and along the coast we arrived at the beach. We rented chairs and umbrellas - $25 for the 3 of us – and… you guessed it … relaxed on the beach with turquoise water, hot sun, and cold beer 😊. You can walk for miles on the beach…actually 4 different beaches that together are about 4 miles long. We could actually see the beach where we got married a couple miles down. It was a little cloudy out to sea, but you could just make out the islands of Monserrat and St. Kitts. You can rent jet-skis or go out on a party catamaran, but it’s nice to relax, listening to the waves, and enjoying the sun. We spent about 2 hours there before returning to St. Johns and checking out a few stores. And there are a lot of stores in St. Johns 😊. We headed back to the ship … it was very pretty later on during sailaway and seeing the sun set over the island.
