The Glorious First of June arrives tomorrow – it’s the anniversary of a great naval battle between Britain and France during the Revolutionary Wars on 1 June 1794. The naval forces were pretty well matched (about 25 ships-of-the-line (between 50 and 140 guns) each – but the British adopted new tactics and although the French accomplished a strategic victory (being able to bring a supply convoy into France) suffered almost 4 times as many casualties and the British were able to successfully blockade France until Trafalgar (and we know what happened there ). Okay, enough trivia – we spent last week still getting showings for the house – and agents arriving 30 minutes late It’s enough to drive you crazy – last minute showings, having to power clean and tidy the house, get Doug the Dog out … and people leave after 5 minutes “It’s too small” (2600 sq. ft.?? ) … “It’s not what we wanted” (…So, you didn’t even look at the pictures before you came?? ) … “We don’t like the neighbourhood” (… Don’t think you would have fit in either, Bucky!!) … and a lot more whines Speaking of Doug the Dog … he still doesn’t like getting in the car … but he can move when he wants to. The other day getting ready for a showing and taking him out the back yard … he escaped again Got out of his harness … ran across the street … up the hill … and into the 500-acre field He had fun … me, not so much, runaway dog that won’t come back until you turn around and start walking back to the house … and eventually will let you put the harness back on. Oh, well … keeps me in shape The weather has cooled down a fair bit … no more 30 C degree days for a while … it was actually below freezing on Friday!! … And it rained … a lot … but that’s okay, the backyard needed the rain. Okay, on to food … still making meals that can be done and heated up in twenty minutes or less. So … burgers, steaks Mediterranean chicken (but with green not black olives), BBQ’d Hot Italian Sausages on Buns (with sauerkraut, onions, and potato salad) Pork with Tomatillo Sauce, … the usual. Oh, and something new ... at left there is a picture of a mini-blender used to ground up Dorito Chips ... and batter chicken breasts with them!! Hmmm, tasty!! Again nothing special but we still manage to eat pretty well. … And it should get better soon … those house showings … we received a conditional offer that should finalize this week … If it doesn’t … then back to the showings So, I can start experimenting with food again. Kelly and I have continued watching ‘The Sinner’ on Netflix – we have finished Season 2 – turned out better than it began, just started Season 3. I was going to watch Season 2 of ‘Who Killed Sara?’ but I’ve gotten hooked on ‘The Good Bandit’ on Netflix – and you just can’t stop after 32 episodes and start watching another show. You have to love these Columbian Telenovelas – they have over 60 episodes and show them over 3 months on TV – 5 nights a week!! The PGA had the Charles Schwab Challenge this past weekend – it looked like Jordan Spieth was going to win but Jason Kokrak outpaced him at the end. Canadians had two top 20 finishes – Adam Hadwin tied for 8th, and Corey Connors tied for 20th. The PGA Senior Championship wrapped up yesterday - congratulations to Alex Cejka – his second year in a row winning this Senior Major!! … And congratulations to Mike Weir – he finished tied for 5th – he’s having a good year on the Seniors (over 50) tour!! . Got to go … have a great and safe week … we will see you in a bit!!
