Today is the Glorious First of June … named after a famous sea battle between the French and English back in the early 1780 ’s - during the revolution. Brits 7 ships of the line sunk or captured – the French, no score. Another great sea battle was the Battle of the Saintes (also known as the Battle of Domenica) which resulted in the Treaty of Paris 1783 – Britain won and claimed Canada – and the cold; the French lost and kept most of their Caribbean islands – and their warmth. When I was in the navy and sailing the North Atlantic, or on a cruise and sailing the Caribbean - I like to see sites of old naval battles and imagine what they must have looked like But I bet the food on board is a lot better now than back then – salt pork and moldy biscuits, yuck!! Did a fair share of cooking during the past week … last Monday had Pig on Sticks – actually our version of cut up pork marinated and BBQed in a basket with marinated veggies, really good; Tuesday steak and baked potato; Wednesday, I can’t remember – some left overs from the week before; Thursday, Veal Scaloppini with Saffron Cream Sauce; Friday we had Smoked Meatloaf with Baked Beans; Saturday, Kelly made a BBQ chicken and Greek salad; and last night I made Ravioli from fresh pasta, stuffed with 3 cheeses, and baked in a meat and cheese sauce Just got off the phone with our meat supplier – he doesn’t have our usual steaks … but he is bringing a bag (16 steaks) of Beef Tenderloin … I guess we will have to make do with that During the past week I’ve been watching the second and third (last) seasons of ‘Occupied’ – the continuing story of what might happen if Norway ever shut off oil production to the EU and ended up being invaded by Russia. Very well done, but it tended to lose the story line in Season 3. Started watching two new Netflix Global series – alternating between a Spanish series ‘Unauthorized Living’ – about a Spanish mafia Don who contracts Alzheimer’s; and a Danish comedy / drama ‘Rita’ about an unconventional high school teacher – very, very good. Kelly and I tried to watch ‘Little Fires Everywhere’ – lasted three episodes and gave up on it But wait, there’s more!! Season 4 of ‘Animal Kingdom’ started last Friday and we have watched 4 episodes – excellent, probably the best shows since Season 1. We are BBQing burgers tonight … won’t be the same without making one for Zeke – and serving it to him cut up with fries on his own plate – he liked extra ketchup … but we have lots of good memories of him … and I imagine he’ll be watching … and drooling, no doubt , from wherever dogs go … so … Have a great and safe week … we will see you in a bit!!
