First full week of being out of in self–isolation, I only went out twice – once to get beer … once to go to an ATM. Got home safely, but I’ll tell you – if a year ago I had gone into a bank wearing sunglasses and a bandanna over my face there might have been a different outcome!! Kelly made a grocery run – took about 2 hours to do – so we got a few more supplies – but we still had to raid the pantry again for a few meals. This week the specialty protein was pork – the most versatile meat out there, you can grind it, roast it, steam it – no, that’s coffee – so many different ways of preparing it. Made a roast with potatoes, onions, and carrots. So easy to do – rub the roast with mustard, olive oil, and spices – stick it in the over for an hour; cut up the vegetables into pieces, toss in olive oil, pepper, salt and oregano – add to the roast for another 40 minutes, and voila!! Supper!! Have some ground pork and tofu lying around? One of my favorite comfort foods – heat up the skillet, add the oil, garlic, onions and pork – throw in cubes of tofu, spices, oyster sauce, and a couple of eggs, and voila!! Supper!! Pork tenderloin looking lonely? Slice into coins, marinate in soy, wine and cornstarch – make a spicy sauce with rice vinegar, hoisin, brown sugar, chilies and soy sauce – add to the skillet with bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms – throw in some Udon noodles, and voila!! Supper!! Another three quick suppers for during the week I’m making a veal scaloppini for Sunday dinner tonight, I haven’t done that in a while – again another easy meal that can be done in 35 minutes. I watched some great Russian series on Netflix this week – started and finished ‘Sparta’ a really excellent police crime drama – a high school teacher commits suicide (maybe) and her students, who are hooked on a 3D virtual role playing game may or not be involved. Started ‘Fartsa’ (not what it sounds like), a comedy / drama set in the early ‘60’s in Moscow about 4 friends who become black marketeers, very, very good. And for something completely different – Kelly and I have been watching ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ on Amazon Prime. It’s funny, it’s good – and like ‘Fartsa’ – is set in the late ‘50’s early ‘60’s. Lots of good comedy routines – hey, even Lenny Bruce is in it! I’m still digging through photos of my trip to Poland back in 2001, and scanning them to digital, which takes a long time to do. Hopefully I can start using them in some travel stories … like the time I lost (and eventually found) a niece … or how we got thrown off a train in the Czech Republic … little things like that … Oh, and we had a little snow during the week ... Have a great and safe week … we’ll see you in a bit!!
