On to Mazatlan in 3 weeks!! Photo in the corner is Fidel – this is how he would greet us in the morning. The second is breakfast. Found a few interesting real estate listings… have to send out emails to arrange for a viewing when we get there … So, this weekend watching the World Champion PGA tournament in Mexico City … the Canadian in there is Corey Connors, tied at 15th after 3 rounds.... Only 1 new recipe up this week, my version of Turkey Pot Pie. Did a remake of my Pork and Lima Bean Casserole – but with ground lamb – wow, what a different flavour and so good!! Had a few leftovers this week - steak and kidney pie, beef bourguignon … the usual stuff. It was cold this weekend, with the occasional spring like temperatures – very strange winter so far. On Netflix finished ‘Maniac’ (Norwegian with English Subtitles – 10 episodes) a comedy about a man in a psychiatric hospital with many fantasies – I was disappointed with the end – they could have made Espen more believable and engaging – the first few episodes were funny and sad, and then they just seemed to run out of plot and story line. Started Narcos Mexico Season 2 – Kelly and I watched Season 1 a year ago and really enjoyed it – not really a fan, way too many story lines to cover in each episode; the script appears to have been written by / and for Americans – all the Mexican characters appear to be bumbling caricatures of themselves. The Mexican Cartel story line was done much better in the 3 seasons of ‘El Chapo’ – also on Netflix. Started ‘Silver Spoon’ (Russian with English subtitles) a police comedy drama about a Russian playboy who is forced by his oligarch father to become a police detective after one crazy night out on the town goes to far. It’s kind of corny, but I like the character and he is starting to become quite a good detective. I’m trying to write up about some stories and travels from the past; Navy yarns, adventures in Poland … cruises (and the islands visited) … Mexico and Latin America … and other odds and ends … but I’m finding it hard to organize my thoughts – so much travelling, so many stories – Where do I start? I kind of have an idea … they should be showing up in the next few weeks. But until then … Go … ‘Leafs … Go !! Although congratulations have to go to David Ayres - an emergency goalie that helped Carolina Hurricanes defeat the Maple Leafs 6 – 3 last night. The first ever emergency goalie in the NHL to be credited with a win. All home teams are required to have an emergency goalie who can be used by either team in the event that a team’s goalies become injured and unavailable. So when the Canes two goalies were taken out of the game by the second period David Ayres, 42 – yes 42 years old, stepped in. Ayres was watching in the stands with his wife when he got called in. Here’s the kicker – Ayres works for the Maple Leaf organization. He’s been a practice goalie for the Leafs and their AHL team (Marlies) for the last 8 years and is also the Zamboni driver at the Marlies hockey facility during home games. And that is the feel-good story of the week. Have a great week …
