COVID numbers still coming down … more places have been reopening … Phase 2 still on track for the 2nd of July 😊 I should be able to get my second vaccine shot in a couple of weeks … right after Canada day 😊 . So summer officially started this past week … although we have had such a hot spring you can’t really tell the difference. We had a big-time thunder / lightening storm last night … Doug the Dog actually came into bed with us for a while 😊. June 24th , St. John’s Day, is coming up this Thursday … not really a big deal here in Canada (with the exception of Quebec – it’s their national holiday) but it is in many other countries around the world (all the Scandinavian countries and the Baltic States for example) . … Lots of fireworks and bonfires … my hometown of Grand Mere had the second largest firework display in Quebec … I believe it was originally a pagan celebration that was kidnapped by the Catholic Church. … Let’s see, close to the longest day of the year and almost exactly 6 months from Christmas (another pagan holiday linked to the shortest day of the year). Check out any Christian holiday … I bet you can link it back to a pagan celebration!! 😊 We checked out Home Depot on Saturday … trying to get an idea of what we want done to the new house. Checked out bathroom fixtures, flooring and dry wall for the basement, doors, etc. … I think we have a pretty good idea of how we want the new house (old house actually … built in 1870) redone and renovated … it’s exciting to plan ahead 😊 . Okay, on to food … lots of smoked meat and leftovers – on two nights we had Smoked Philly Cheese Steak; two nights Smoked Pork Chili; BBQ’d Italian Sausage on a bun with Potato Salad; and yesterday I made Lamb Kofta Meatballs with cauliflower, peppers, chickpeas, and baby corn cobs … mmmm, tasty😊 . Kelly and I haven’t started watching anything new on Netflix or Prime – we can’t find any decent new English language shows ☹ So … we’ve been mainly watching home improvement shows, beach house buying around the world, etc. . I binge watched ‘The Inmate’ on Netflix – a Mexican prison series about an ex-marine hired by his boss to find the boss’s kidnapped daughter in a violent Mexican prison (are there any other types of prisons in Mexico). There are lots of holes in the plot (‘You want me to go to prison where I’ll probably get raped and murdered on my first day ?? Sure, count me in – sounds like fun.”). There is supposed to be a Season 2, but I have my doubts 😊. So with that out of the way … I also binge watched ‘Katla’ - an Icelandic sci-fi series much like ‘Dark’. It’s pretty depressing … a volcano has been erupting for over a year … changlings keep showing up … lots of suicide … but hey, I liked it. I love practicing my Icelandic and I enjoy watching the beautiful scenery of Iceland. Again, they say there will be a Season 2 … but everything seemed to be tied up at the end. … So again, I’ll need something new to watch😊. The PGA had the U.S. Open at Torey Pines in San Diego this past week – big time redemption for Jon Rahm after he had to withdraw from the Memorial Championship a couple of weeks ago 😊 He birdied back-to-back on the last two holes and jumped into the lead by one stroke over Louis Oosthuizen who then bogied on seventeen to create a two-stroke deficit. Rahm takes home his first major and 2.5 million U.S. – Oosthuizen, who looked like a sure thing to win – came in second for 1.3 million U.S. … this was his sixth runner up performance in a major. On the Canadian side Mackenzie Hughes (his previous best in a major was 87th) started off in first place Sunday … and then went on to shoot six over for the day … he ended up tied for 15th and $150 K U.S. so not too bad 😊… On to hockey – Montreal are tied up two games a piece with Los Vegas Golden Knights … they head back to Vegas for game 5. Got to go … have a great and safe week … we will see you in a bit!!
