The Olympic Games in Tokyo began last week – didn’t really expect that to happen what with the COVID state of emergency that they still have over there – and the opening ceremony was probably the worst I have ever seen. The Canadians have picked up six medals so far – two from a swimmer here in London – and have had a lot of close calls. They should do well overall – last Olympics in Rio the country placed fifth in overall medal counts There was a big announcement this morning – Simone Biles of the U.S. gymnastics team has had to pull out of the team event – the U.S. had won gold the last two Olympics; they might have to settle for a different colour this year. Doug the Dog has now been with us for a year – and it was a year ago today that he escaped and led me on a wild goose chase around the neighbourhood. It took 45 minutes – and I lost 14 pounds chasing him – to round him up. He seems to have settled in – just in time to move to the new house
We take possession tomorrow – Kelly is having an invisible fence put in so we’ll have to see how Doug reacts to that !
We picked out some stuff over the weekend for the renovation – that will take about three weeks for the new bathrooms and rebuilding the basement. … And then we have to be ready for the movers in about 4 weeks time. Lots of packing and cleaning going on - the picture on the left is dusting and cleaning the regatta in the back yard; Kahuna doesn't look impressed 🙂 . We are going to be pretty busy over the next month!!
Vaccination numbers are still going up … Ontario now in week two of Stage 3 of reopening … but there’s still about ten percent of the population that refuse to get vaccinated
. Okay, on to food … we are still trying to empty up the two freezers so not a lot of new recipes … so lots of old standards and leftovers; pastas; steaks; burgers and sausages; Italian Pastas with homemade meat sauces; Chinese curries; Indonesian Rendangs – both beef and chicken
Kelly and I haven’t found anything new to watch on Netflix or Prime – so we just caught up on travel shows and some Olympic sports. I binge watched ‘Minions of Midas’ on Netflix – well, not exactly binged … there were only six episodes
It’s a Spanish miniseries based on a novella by Jack London. I watched the documentary of how they made ‘Money Heist’ such a phenomenon around the world – more ‘Bella Ciao’ stuck in my head – it was quite good and surprising to learn that it was almost cancelled after Season 2 but then Netflix picked it up and it went global
Alex Pina created ‘Money Heist’, he also did ‘Locked Up’ and ‘Sky Rojo’ – Season 2 just started on Friday – I started watching last night and will probably have all 8 episodes done by tomorrow
. It’s quite the thriller and well worth watching
. On to golf … PGA had the John Deere Classic two weeks ago in Illinois – the Canadians were pretty bad – the less said the better. This past weekend was the 3M Open in Blaine, Minnesota. There were a lot of golfers contending for Fedex points – only the top 125 start off in the playoffs. All four Canadians made the cut – Roger Sloan and Adam Hadwin got off to a good start – then choked a bit on Sunday; Hadwin ($208 U.S.) ended up tied for 6th, Sloan tied for 16th ($88 K U.S.) – Michael Gligic finished tied for 49th, Davide Hearn tied for 58th
… On to hockey – the expansion draft for the Seattle Kraken hockey team took place last Wednesday – most of the picks were middle ranked players – the general manager Ron Francis made the most of the $83 Million salary cap; he only used up about $50 Million. Got to go … have a great and safe week … we will see you in a bit!!
