“Now is the winter of our discontent”… and spring … and summer

The weather forecast, we Canadians have a love affair with it … be it good … be it bad … be it accurate,  or not. We turn on The Weather Channel first thing in the morning … what’s it going to be like - the drive to work or the drive coming home … can we golf on the weekend … do we need gas for the snow blower, the list goes on and on. And the other end of the spectrum … “Well, they were wrong about that … must be nice to get paid for guessing 50 / 50 … “ and so on. Myself, I watch the forecast about 4 times a day … for the local weather outlook … travellers forecast (Caribbean, Mexico, etc. ) … and my favorite segment – “Force of Nature”. Nowadays, with global warming and climate change, there seems to many more storms, floods, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions happening around the world than before. And a lot of them seem to be in places that I grew up near or have travelled to. This summer alone I’ve seen clips of: lightning strikes in Lac A La Tortue and tornado touchdowns in Lac Aux Sables, Quebec – both near my home town of Grand Mere; Hurricane Dorian causing catastrophic damage in the Bahamas, and electrical outages and flooding in Nova Scotia; Hurricane Humberto narrowing avoiding Bermuda, forest fires in Western Canada … the list goes on. All of these places hold memories for me, and I’ll be writing about them (and other places) in the near future. In the meantime, keep an eye on the weather forecast…
