It’s been a busy month … I haven’t had a lot of time to catch up on the blog. … But I just started two weeks off – although staying at home; we were supposed to be going on a cruise this weekend but had to postpone it until 2023. … And the vacation time I’m taking is either use it or lose it. So I’m taking time off … I’ll go back to work for three weeks … and then we are off to Mexico in January!! 😊 On Remembrance Day I did a little tour around Southern Ontario … drove along Lake Erie and checked out the cenotaphs in the small towns and villages. Port Bruce, Port Burwell (where I stopped to see the HMCS Ojibwa museum), Vienna, Straffordville, Eden, etc. . Remembrance Day has always been special to me … I was navy 18 years, my dad served in WW II ’39 – 45, my grandfather WW I ’14 – 18 … I did 4 cenotaph duties while I was still in … The house has come a long way … 99% of the renovation complete … new roof … new eavestroughs … fenced in area for Doug the Dog … lots of landscaping, tractoring and chainsawing, etc. It’s been a long haul but we’re finally getting there. Our last major piece of work was getting the contractors to finish the soffit on the new patio roof extension – it was done two weeks ago and looks great. So a couple more pot lights, a few more shelves and we are all done!! 😊 Oh, speaking of Doug the Dog … we are planning on renaming him to ‘Bacon’ … he doesn’t always come back into the house when we yell his name … but he always comes in when I yell ‘Bacon’!! 😊The weather has started to turn very cold … the wind whips in off the empty fields … so winter is here and we have already had our first blast of snow. Spent a lot of time lately raking, blowing, and bagging leaves – 54 bags total and multiple trips to the recycle depot in St. Thomas. Just in time - had snow flurries today ☹ Sent the John Deere for a tune up and maintenance – wanted to remove the mower and replace with the snow blade; turns out it was the wrong blade ☹ … and it’s not worthwhile spending about 1K for a new one ☹ … So looks like JD will spend the winter in the barn and I’ll end up using the snow blower to keep the driveways clean. Doug the Dog is full country dog now – barks at everyone that comes on our property. … The cows across the way have been moved to their new field – right across the road – and Doug the Dog really, really wants to go after them. Luckily (or unluckily for them) they will be leaving soon … for the abattoir ☹ Speaking of beef on the move … over the last couple of weeks we’ve had steaks, burgers, Beef Roasts, Mexican Pork (or Chicken) Tortillas (corn instead of flour), Chicken and Beef Curries, Rendangs, casseroles, etc. … lots of good, homemade meals!! 😊 On the Netflix front I finished a Spanish series – ‘Jaguar’ – turned out to be pretty good. I’ve run out of series to watch on Netflix – waiting for the finale of ‘Money Heist’ first week of December. So I watched a Finnish series that I watched a couple of years ago – ‘Border Town’. It was even better watching it the second time around (and my understanding of Finnish and Russian is much better now ) 😊 . Then to fill in the time I binge watched ‘Gloria’ in Portuguese and ‘The Mire 97’ in Polish. Now I’m redoing ‘Money Heist’ Season 4 and the first part of Season 5 to coincide with the finale that starts a week today 😊 Kelly and I finished watching ‘The Big C’ – it was very good, but sad … you knew how it was going to turn out ☹ ‘Yellowstone’ on Amazon Prime is finally back for Season 4 - but they only air one episode at a time on Sundays so we will wait until the whole season is on and binge watch then. So started watching Season 4 of ‘The Sinner’ – not one of my favorites, but it’s not too bad. … And even though it’s supposed to take place in Maine it was all filmed in Nova Scotia – primarily in Lunenburg and the South Shore 😊 … And we started watching ‘Squid Game’ – it’s turned out to be a lot better than I expected and Netflix just announced that there will be a Season 2. Oh, if you live in North Korea don’t even try to sell copies of the series – a smuggler there has just been sentenced to death by firing squad and the seven students he sold it to have all been given prison sentences of five years or more ☹ On to golf … a couple of tournaments since the end of October – Butterfield Bermuda; top Canadian was Taylor Pendrith in 5th (his best finish ever for $500K) – HP Houston Open; very forgettable for Canadians – and The RSM Classic that was on last weekend; Mackenzie Hughes came in 2nd place (a whopping $750K U.S.) and five other Canadians made the cut and earned some cash. Nothing on the PGA circuit until the new year. NFL football is in it’s eleventh week … my Seahawks lost again last weekend even though Russell Wilson has been back and lost his last 3… with a 3 – 7 record there’s not much chance that they will make the playoffs this year ☹ … In hockey Seattle Kraken in last place in their division – but they have won their last two, so maybe some hope, Maple Leafs in second and 1 point out of first and doing pretty good 😊 Got to go … the John Deere just came back from its servicing and I need to give it a hug … have a great and safe week … we will see you in a bit!!
