It’s been a while since I’ve updated … it’s been about five weeks … what with the move to the country, renovations on the new house, unexpected setbacks … it has been pretty busy To start off with … the movers came in on two days; the first to load a trailer with all the odds and ends we had in the garage; the second to move all the remaining furniture to the new house for us to move into. Well, that didn’t work out well … the house wasn’t ready – the basement hadn’t been finished yet (drywalled, sanded, painted, etc. ) and all the furniture and boxes had to be dumped in the main floor rooms. So, we couldn’t move in that day. We had to book into a motel for at least two days. … And, the trailer couldn’t be unloaded – so it had to go back into the compound for two weeks; along with essentials like a freezer, BBQ, smoker, clothes, etc. … And Doug the Dog couldn’t be picked up without a place to move into So, we got the last available motel rooms in the area ( twenty-four miles away) at a place we will call ‘The Bates Motel’, where we ended up staying for 9 nights as the new house still wasn’t ready We subsisted on a steady diet of pizza and subs – first pizzas we had ordered in over five years, but the best pizza ever!! – and Doug the Dog remained in the doggie hotel Kelly had to go back to work … so we drove every morning to the house and back to the motel in the evening. We moved into the house when the basement was finished – still surrounded by boxes as the trailer wasn’t unloaded for another 5 days – and picked up Doug the Dog – at least he was happy when he saw the new place for the first time. The new house (from now on known as ‘The Farm’ ) is still a bit of a mess – but it’s getting better. It’s taking time to finish off the bathrooms and it’s difficult to unload all the boxes ( 120 at last count) until we can figure out what goes where. A fence for Doug the Dog still has to be built (there’s an existing fence, but he could probably get out through it) and he has to be led around the house on a leash while the renovators are still here so that he doesn’t run out an open door. A patio roof extension is being built off the kitchen and a new metal roof should be going up next week. The Mennonites are installing the roof - should make for some pretty interesting pictures!! Hopefully everything (with the exception of some basement windows) will be finished soon. It’s a different world out here … very quiet, only a few neighbors, and lots of corn!! Deer have been sighted … coyotes howl during the night … killer squirrels abound … and hawks and eagles can be seen daily. Oh, and cows can be seen across the road … at least until the butcher truck went up the other day However, they appear to have been replaced by sheep … not sure for how long … we will keep an eye out for the butcher truck again!! If we need any groceries or hardware … or lottery tickets … it’s a 11 Km drive into Aylmer And the thunderstorms and tornado warnings have been constant over the last couple of days. The other night saw the worst thunderstorm people had ever seen in Southern Ontario - and there was tornado damage as well in St. Thomas and Ailsa Craig. Last night was continual tornado warnings to the north of us. Okay, on to food … it’s a little hit and miss right now, the kitchen isn’t completely set up yet but give it a couple more weeks and I can start trying new recipes again We finally got the tv set up again – not a lot of channels on Bell but I can watch Netflix again. Kelly and I have been watching Season 3 of ‘Good Girls’, it’s not too bad. I started watching another Columbian telenovela – ‘Sin Senos Si Hay Paraiso’ – it’s a follow-up to a popular series from 2008, but nowhere near as good I binge watched Season 5 Part 1 of ‘Money Heist’ – it’s only 5 episodes (Part 2 starts December 3) but it’s non-stop (almost – there’s scenes from years before) action packed and keeps you on the edge of your seat and ends on a cliff hanger scene. All good things come to an end … the 5 episodes airing in December will be the finale to the series … be interesting to see how it ends On to golf … the Fedex Tour Championship only had 1 Canadian in the final group of 30 - Connors ended up in 22nd spot and $465 K U.S. richer! NFL football started last weekend … my Seahawks beat Indianapolis to win their first game … and Russell Wilson had 4 touchdowns!! Sorry that this update was so late but it’s been pretty hectic over the last few weeks!! I’ll add more about the moving process and the new house in the next few weeks!! I'll also add pictures of before and after once the house is finished. Got to go … do some work, unpack more boxes … have a great and safe week … we will see you in a bit!!
