So the beginning of May is finally here … people all around the world celebrate the 1st of May as Labour Day (but not in Canada or the U.S.) … Mayday has been used for years as a sign of distress … the reason being is how people pronounced M’aidez … or ‘Help Me!’ In French. So with that useless piece of trivia out of the way … the usual weird weather … wear a parka for walking Doug the Dog at 8am, wear a t-shirt and apply sunscreen for walking him at 1pm Speaking of Doug the Dog … that’s a couple of pictures of him in our backyard this weekend. What with the drought and the weeds last year, mixed in with Doug the rototiller, our backyard was a horrible place … all dirt and weeds But, since we are going to be selling our house soon we figured that we had better resod the backyard, de-weed the front yard, etc. . So those pictures are ‘before’ and ‘after’ … it took about 7 hours to get done … And we will probably list our house in a couple of weeks, so a lot of work to get done before people start viewing to buy. The COVID vaccines have started arriving in much larger loads lately … with the result that the government believes they can have every adult over 18 registered to get vaccinated by the end of this month!! That will be great … but until everyone has had their second shot (in about 4 or 5 months) people will still have to be careful and not relax … remember the first shot is only about 55% effective … it doesn’t become 97% effective until the second shot. … And guaranteed people will still be stupid and think they are invincible . Remember the golf course that opened up for business last week … even though it was against government regulations … well, they were still taking tee times this week … And they have been charged by the government … when they go to court next month they are facing fines of up to $10 Million Canadian!! Oh, well … stupid is as stupid does … and you can’t fix stupid!! The condo finally closed last Monday … and we got the cheque … and now we just have to sell this place and move into the farmhouse on Sparta Line!! (that's the house on the bottom left) … That won’t be until August, but plenty of time to plan our partial renovation … new bathroom and bedroom, a couple of offices … should only take a couple of weeks to do!! Okay, on to food … it was chicken week; Chicken Curry; roast Chicken; BBQ’d chicken drumsticks with salad; Mediterranean Chicken; … followed by BBQ’d steaks, cheeseburgers, etc. – that’s what happens when chicken goes on sale at the grocery store and you don’t have any freezer bags to store the chicken in!! But it was all good Today I’m doing Italian Meatballs in Tomato Sauce with Fresh Pasta Almost everything from scratch … I make the tomato sauce with fresh tomatoes (I scald the tomatoes and process them through a food mill), chopped celery, onions, and carrots … and lots of herbs and spices I mix the meatball mixture up myself … here’s a hint if you want tender moist balls … soak shredded pumpernickel bread in cream and add to the mixture with a couple of eggs, spices, Worcestershire Sauce, etc. … I made Pulled Pork Enchiladas for supper last night, but we were so busy with the sodding that we never got to eat it … that will be tomorrow’s supper Kelly and I have been watching ‘Ginny and Georgia’ on Netflix – pretty light fluff, but still enjoyable to watch. People must have like it – it’s been renewed for a second season. I’m into Season 3 of ‘Cable Girls’ on Netflix – it’s gotten better and I’ve got caught up in the plot Corey Connors took last week off from golf – and it shows He’s playing in the Valspar Championship in Florida … only 2 of 7 Canadians made the cut … and he’s looking pretty rusty … he’s tied for 33rd (along with the other Canadian, Michael Gligic) nine strokes back But hey, he’s been having an amazing year and is around 18th in the Fedex standings!! Got to go … I have to shape and roll my balls … meatballs that is … and watch some Netflix … have a great and safe week … we will see you in a bit!!
