So the first unofficial long weekend of summer is finally here … May Two Four … officially it’s Queen Victoria’s birthday and a holiday here in Canada. Unofficially it’s the first long weekend when get a couple of two fours of beer, go camping or go to the beach … and set off fireworks Well, fireworks are mostly illegal this year for homeowners (except for Monday) but people will do them anyways Everybody tends to enjoy them … except for pets … dogs hate them (Doug the Dog included) . And hot, very, very hot – 30C feels like 35C ( 82 to 90 F). I had intended to update the blog a week ago, but with trying to sell the house and work everything got kind of busy and backed up No luck yet on the house … lots of showings, but not to the market we are looking for We don’t need first time home buyers, or families with new born children People come in from Toronto … (usually late for the showing time – once 90 minutes late ) … and are in and out in 7 minutes So the agents are showing them several other places at a lower price and telling them if you want to spend another one or two hundred thousand over your limit you might like this Anyhow, what with having to be out of the house during the showings … Doug the Dog refusing to get in the car … dealing with idiots at work … it’s been rather hectic lately. Speaking of Doug the Dog … you know how nowadays a lot of new vehicle models have the ‘check your backseat’s option enabled (in case you leave your child by mistake in the back)? Doug is not a fan I had disabled the function but it was reenabled after a maintenance service two weeks ago. I went into a store for a couple of minutes and Doug was in the back seat. So of course the backseat alarm went off – a very, very, very loud horn that after you turn it off starts off again every thirty seconds Doug didn’t seem to mind, but the next time we went for a drive (Kelly got her COVID vaccination), he refused to get in the car Wouldn’t be enticed with bickies or snacks … nothing I ended up having to open the tail gate and lift him in – and at over one hundred pounds, Doug is not easy to lift However, yesterday we drove down to Port Dover to see my sister … had to lift Doug in again … coming back he jumped back in, so hopefully he’s over the horn trauma Okay, on to food … what with the showings it was hard to make any special meals … didn’t really know what time we’d be eating … so we kept it simple. Meals that could be done or heated up in twenty minutes or less. So … burgers, steaks (and steak salad), Mediterranean chicken, spicy ground pork and tofu, I even made a Beef Rendang during one afternoon that we were able to have on two different occasions. Chicken drumsticks and enchilada sauce, curries, Cream of Asparagus and Cheese Soup, and the like. So nothing special but we still managed to eat pretty well … just a little late some evenings. Kelly and I have continued watching ‘The Sinner’ on Netflix – didn’t like it at first but Season 1 turned out pretty good. We are halfway through Season 2, not as good but we will finish it. I binge watched two Spanish language series on Netflix – ‘Who Killed Sara?’ and ‘Sky Rojo’ – finished both series in one week. Liked them both – a lot – Season 2 of ‘WKS’ just started and Season 2 of ‘SR’ will be on in July - Alex Pina who created the series also did 'Money Heist" and 'Locked Up'. I also started watching ‘The Good Bandit’ on Netflix – it’s a pretty cheesy Columbian comedy / telenovela (63 episodes) but it’s funny and something different from the usual crime / drug cartel / murder mysteries that I usually watch. Diego Vasquez plays the main character – it’s quite a change to see him in a comedic role – his last major part was as the villain from hell in ‘La Nina’. Golf has not been really good for Canadians lately – their showings the last two weeks have been middle of the pack. The PGA Championship wrapped up yesterday -congratulations to Phil Mickelson – he entered on a special dispensation, and ended up winning!! … And at 50 years old is the oldest golfer to win a major championship!! Corey Connors (Canadian from Listowel) started off well but choked on the second day … ended up tied for 17th. But that’s not bad … 2 top ten finishes and 3 top 20 finishes in the last 3 majors … not too many other golfers can say that (actually, I don’t think there is any others) . Got to go … have a great and safe week … we will see you in a bit!!
