Marie Antoinette had the right idea but her timing was incredibly ill-timed. Over the past week I made pie, not cake, but pie, 3.154 of them to be exact (well, to 54 decimal places anyways), okay kidding aside, 4 of them. Tamale pie with a cornbread topping and pork filling, - Steak and Kidney Pie with, well, steak and kidney (duh!! ) – Turkey Pot Pie (turkey was on sale for 99 cents a pound, lots of leftovers) – and finally Egg Pie. Egg Pie is really quiche but in the navy, since real men didn’t eat quiche, we called it egg pie. For Sunday dinner Kelly baked a ham with green beans and scalloped potatoes, so … lots of ham leftovers too. I like to bake, and I make all my pastries for my pies from scratch. I can whip up pastry dough in about 10 minutes and roll it out in 5. And the smell of freshly baked pies in the kitchen in the autumn …. Hmmmm!! This week called for savoury pies, but soon … apple, blueberry, peach and many more pies to come …
