A new year – and nothing has really changed . Record numbers of Omicron and COVID-19; people whining about the government either doing too much or doing too little; cruises cancelled; Russia threatening war with Ukraine; Amazon and Tesla making record amounts of money; to 5G or not to 5G; the list goes on Still working with my New Year’s resolution – learn a few more languages; up to 40 now Maybe I’ll have a shot at getting into the Guinness Book of World Records!! Probably not, that would take too much work . Good thing that Kelly and cancelled our vacation to Mexico – numbers of COVID are on the rise; negative PCR tests now required on entry; restrictions increased on bars and restaurant . So we’ll wait until next December to go somewhere. The weather has been pretty weird lately – relatively warm and dry one day, - 28 with the wind chill the next; two feet of snow the next; and starting to melt again today. But we have been pretty fortunate, not a lot of snow yet, unlike the rest of Ontario. Oh, on the coldest day of the year -the bone heads at Hydro One (Ontario’s rural electricity provider) had a scheduled power outage in order to move a house down the road. On a seven mile stretch, with over 600 customers for almost 3 hours!! So, no hydro, no water, no electricity and no heat for 3 hours Luckily the outage was completed on time. The other day we had our first major snow fall – about 18 inches. Not a lot of snow, but the driveway (50 feet long by 20 wide) still has to be cleared up as Kelly has to drive to London the next day. So, around 3 o’clock we look out the front – and Cousin Jeff (our next door neighbour that owns the fields around us) has his front end loader out cleaning out the front of our drive way!! I tell you, country people are the best!! Our back yard has become like a little nature preserve – Kelly loads up the bird feeders, dozens of birds drop by all day to feed. At first the birds would scatter when Doug the Dog went outside, now they just ignore him, give him the wing, or make rude remarks about his weight . Lots of cooking going on We have had homemade soups, pork tenderloin with roasted veggies; fresh pasta and homemade meat sauce; Spanish Paella with shrimp, chicken, and sausage; stuffed green peppers; leftovers where different dishes were combined (Paella and Pasta); steaks and burgers; chicken and beef curries; the list goes on and on! Safe to say that we eat pretty well!! On the Netflix front we finished watching Season 4 of ‘Yellow Stone’ and Season 2 of ‘Mind – both left a lot of questions unanswered and both have not been renewed yet . I tried watching Season 4 of ‘Bonus Family’ but failed to finish – Swedish family life is so boring and pretentious . I went back to ‘Pablo Escobar – Patron Del Mal’; I had previously only watched the first 34 episodes of the total 74. But after watching the final Season of ‘Narcos’ – absolutely horrible with terrible acting – I wanted to see a more accurate (and better acted) version of the Escobar story, so I only have 3 more episodes to watch. Season 3 of ‘Undercover’ started last Friday – a Belgian crime series – we’ve watched the first two episodes – it’s even better than the first two seasons. On to golf … start of the PGA Season, first major event ‘The Sony Open’ in Hawaii. Canadians are off to a good start … the two that made the cut – Adam Svensson and Corey Connors – tied for 7th place and $228K U.S. . Next up, ‘The American Express’ tournament in La Quinta California – 7 Canadians will be playing in it. The NFL regular season ended … last weekend was the wildcard playoffs – needless to say Seattle wasn’t in it. It will be interesting to see if Russell Wilson stays around for next year. This upcoming divisional playoff I’m going for all the underdogs – Bengals over Titans; San Francisco over Green Bay; LA Rams over Tom Brady, uh, Buccaneers; and the Bills over the Chiefs. I would love to see a Bills / Forty Niners Superbowl!! In hockey Seattle Kraken still sucks –Maple Leafs still in third place and looking good, until the playoffs anyways when they will suck as well Got to go … … have a great and safe week … we will see you in a bit!!
