First Week of June … Hot and Busy …

Lasagna (1)
General Tso Chicken
Kitchen Sink macaroni casserole
sausage buns and macaroni salad

The 77th anniversary of D-Day was yesterday, June 6 – my father was on board the cruiser ORP Dragon supporting the landing of Canadian troops on Juno Beach – the ship took a hit from an artillery shell that killed 3 sailors. One month later on the 7th of July Dragon was torpedoed and heavily damaged with the loss of 24 sailors. Luckily, my father was off watch when that happened. Okay, enough trivia – we finally got our conditional offer on the house waived – all we needed was a home inspector to sign off - - so the only thing left is to find movers, contractors, pack and everything up 😊 I’ll probably take a couple of weeks off in August to help out (or get in the way, it’s a 50 /50 outcome 😊)   The weather has been incredibly hot over the last week – it wasn’t supposed to be, but weather forecasters aren’t exactly known to be 100% accurate 😊 The hot weather and thunder storms will continue on this week. Okay, on to food … with the showings done I should be able to start making decent meals again – though we had a couple of nights with BBQ’d Italian Sausage with Potato Salad, I made a kitchen-sink macaroni casserole (everything in it but the kitchen sink – bacon, sausage, ground beef, cheese, tomatoes, etc. ), tried something new with General Tso Chicken – instead of deep frying the chicken I did that part in the air-fryer, I made a six pound seven cheese lasagna for Sunday supper last night, all kinds of good stuff 😊 Kelly and I have finished watching  ‘The Sinner’ on Netflix – wow, was Season 3 ever bad (and didn’t make any sense either). There is supposed to be a Season 4 but they had better get another writer. We will have to find some other English show on Netflix to watch – maybe ‘The Kominsky Method’ – the final season just started. I ‘m still plowing through ‘The Good Bandit’ on Netflix – I only have the last 10 episodes to watch (out of 63). The series has suffered the Columbian Telenovela curse – after 30 episodes they get new writers that are desperately searching for new plots and the shows kind of tanks ☹ The PGA had the  Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio this past weekend – it was delayed a couple of times due to inclement weather (read rain and thunder) and was a huge disappointment for John Rahm – the defending champion. Rahm had a 6-stroke lead after the third round but had to withdraw due to testing positive for COVID ☹ In the end it came down to a playoff between Patrick Cantlay and Collin Morikawa – Cantlay won. Two Canadians made the cut – Nick Taylor tied for 42nd, and Corey Connors tied for 53rd – his worst finish this year ☹ Brooke Henderson did much better in the LPGA US Open – she tied for 7th and $147K U.S. 😊 … And on the PGA Tour Champions Principal Charity Classic – a Canadian won!! Stephen Ames (originally from Trinidad but in Canada for the last twenty years) won for his second Champions title!! 😊 And $277.5 K U.S… … And Mike Weir came in second!! 😊   …For $163K U.S. – pretty good weekend for the Senior Canadians 😊 Speaking of golf … Toronto Maple Leafs headed back to the links after being knocked out of the playoffs by Montreal ☹ On a good note about hockey … Canada won the gold medal at the World Hockey Championship against Finland!! Got to go … have a great and safe week … we will see you in a bit!!
