A Return To Normalcy … Maybe …

We are almost at the 4-week mark of the lockdown in Ontario … and the end of the first week of the stay-at-home restrictions – with three more weeks to go. The numbers are starting to ease down a bit, but there is still a long way to go ☹ I walk Dougie The Dog twice a day (we live in a quiet sub-division, and it doesn’t hurt that there is a 500-acre overgrown field right across the road) so still getting safe exercise but only going out once a week to get necessities – beer, wine, and fresh veggies 😊 The weather finally warmed up today … it’s been snowing and feeling like -11 C the last week. … And thank God (or Jehovah, or Mithras, or Odin, or whatever) that Washington has finally settled down (appears to, anyways).   Congratulations to Joe Biden, President #46, and may he be able to restore the damage that Trump has done over the past four years – the U.S.’s reputation has taken a major hit world wide and it will probably take a  while (if ever) to regain it’s pre-eminence. Looks like China is the new number one. Biden hasn’t done any favour to us Canadians by cancelling the Keystone Pipeline Extension on his first day in office – but overall, the relationship between Canada and the U.S. should get back to normal. Okay, enough political ranting … on to more important things … food … Netflix … golf … and of course, football.  You might have noticed that there aren’t a lot of pictures on this weeks blog … for the most part last weeks meals were reheated leftovers and quick to make suppers … Brats and Potato Salad, Steak and Beans, various casseroles, and something different … a Beef Rendang Wrap!! 😊 We had a lot of rendang left over from the week before and I thought … hmmm … what if I wrapped it up in a tortilla with lettuce, pickled cucumber, onions, and queso fresco … and served with a salad … Wow, was that ever good!! 😊 The reason it’s in a cup is that it’s pretty messy to try to heat up in a microwave … so, put it in a glass mug!! 😊 Kelly and I finished season 2 of  ‘Yellowstone’ – it wasn’t bad … pretty violent though. We are watching Season 3 now … and it seems to have gotten more mellow, a little more real-life – Season 4 should be coming on in a couple more months 😊. I thought I would take a break from Spanish speaking series – so ‘Monarca’ is still on hold – and tried watching a French-Belgian series, ‘Black Spot’ (‘Zone Blanche’).  It’s a police mystery procedural – different story every week, but an underlying plot throughout the series. A lot of mystery, a little supernatural in Season 1, (lots in Season 2), and some great acting. All I can say is … Wow!! … I mean Wow!! (I’ll post a review later this week). The PGA  ‘The Sony Open’ took place last weekend - there were 6 Canadians playing – 3 made the cut; Nick Taylor (tied for 11th - $154K U.S.); Mackenzie Hughes (tied for 19th - $78K U.S.); and Mike Weir – yes, Mike Weir the winner of ‘The Masters’ back in 2000! It’s been a while since he made a cut (tied for 47th - $17K U.S.). Well the NFL Playoff Divisional Weekend is over  – no big surprises … Green Bay handled L.A. Rams pretty well … Buffalo won handily over Indie … Kansas just squeaked by Cleveland … and Tampa managed to beat Kansas. If Tampa manages to get by Green Bay this weekend in the conference final it will be the first time in the modern NFL era that a competing team will be playing in their own stadium in the Super Bowl. Power to them … but I hope that if they do they end  up playing Buffalo!! … Wouldn’t that be great … Buffalo beating Tom  Brady!! Let’s go, Buffalo!! Have a great and safe week … we will see you in a bit!!
