… and first day of March. On to Mazatlan in 2 weeks!! Photo in the corner is Kelly checking out presidential t-shirts. Sent an email out to a real estate agent in Mazatlan – and she responded with listings that we might be interested in … pretty nice places, we’ll get the tour of them when we go down in 2 weeks. No new recipes this week … usually we try not to buy any new groceries before a vacation … so use up the leftovers, clean out the refrigerator by making standard favourites with whatever needs finishing up. Want something simple and fast? Flash up the barbeque!! Get out the homemade burger patties (Kelly makes the best burgers in the world) … one for me, one for Kelly, one for the Doodle (aka Zeke the Dog - he gets his own burger on his own plate) toss on the grill, brown the buns, stack on the cheese (swiss and cheddar) and serve with potato and macaroni salad . Like barbeque chicken? Olive oil and kosher salt on chicken pieces (we do legs and backs), put on the homemade rub (it’s a secret, can’t divulge it), sear on the grill, put in a grilling basket and offset heat (keep one burner on, put the basket over the turned off side and cover), flip after 10 minutes each side, slather on generic barbeque sauce each side for 10 minutes, and finish off in medium oven (270 degrees) for about 10 minutes – best chicken ever!! Made Shepheard’s Pie – but with ground lamb, peas, corn, basil and oregano – and topped with mashed potatoes and cheddar cheese – wow, what a different flavour and so good!! Sunday dinner – made Sole a la Bretonne with haddock filets instead of sole – a different flavour and a new favourite. Turkey Pot Pie – of course, one of the best leftover dinners around. Actually used the snow blower twice this week (I remembered to check the oil and fill it up with gas ) for the first time this winter – it was pretty cold but supposed to be going up to plus 8 (that’s like 47 F for the U.S. friends) this coming week. Netflix was a mixed bag last week - finished Narcos Mexico Season 2 – very disappointed with it – as they had little factual data to work with the storyline was mostly made up and very loosely based on the actual events – after about 3 episodes the story kind of ran out of steam and wandered all over the place. Finished the first season of ‘Silver Spoon’ (Russian with English subtitles) it started off slowly as a police comedy drama about a Russian playboy becomes a police detective after being cut off by his super rich father. However, Igor becomes quite a good detective and uses the police resources to solve the mystery of his mother’s murder. Season 1 ends with a blast and season 2 takes off 6 months later now having to solve his father’s murder as well. I’m getting hooked on these Russian police dramas(‘Silver Spoon’, ‘The Method’) – they are done so well, the acting is great, and you get to see Russian and the Russian people the way they really are – it’s quite enlightening 😊 . Brushing up on my Spanish … for the trip and I’m hoping to get some new Mexican recipes to try out for when I get back. But until then … Go … ‘Leafs … Go !! They are on a 3-game winning streak. Keeping an eye on the covid-19 virus – according to Trump that’s a democrat conspiracy?? … And that’s why they should have a wall?? Spoiler alert, Donald … China already has one … And that is the weird / wtf story of the week. Have a good one and we’ll see you next week …
