Saturday was the 76th anniversary of D-Day – my father was there on ORP Dragon one of the Polish Navy ships that provided support for the landing of the British Army on Sword Beach and later for the Canadian Army on Juno Beach. On D-Day Dragon was hit by a shell that killed 4 sailors. A month later on July 7 the Dragon was torpedoed and sunk with a loss of 26 sailors. My dad was lucky that he was off watch in the engine room when the ship was hit. Did a fair share of cooking during the past week … last Sunday had homemade 3 cheese ravioli baked in a tomato meat sauce ; Monday, I can’t remember, Tuesday beef tenderloin steak and baked potato; Wednesday, Greek chicken with tomatoes, olives, and feta cheese; Thursday, steak salad with cheese and spinach; Friday, I did a Lamb Kheema with Peas and Potatoes; Saturday, Kelly made a veal stew with chunks of toast; and last night I made Paella with chicken, sausage, and shrimp. Stopped in at my favorite butcher last week – Laziz - and bought a 13-pound Angus brisket. I have had half of it dry brining over the last 6 days and will be smoking it later this week to make my version of Montreal Smoked Meat – I think I make mine better than Schwartz’s or Reubens
