Season 1
‘Maestro in Blue’ is a crime mystery/ drama / romance series about Orestes, a musician, who has been hired to direct a revival of the music festival on the small island of Paxos by Fanis, a local businessman and mayoral hopeful. Among the people he meets are Fanis’s family - Klelia, 30 years younger than Orestes; Antonis, his son, who is secretly gay; Sophia, his wife (in love with the local doctor); Haris, his mother-in-law - and Maria, who is to help him set up the festival, her son Spyros (in love with Antonis), and her abusive husband Haralambos (in love with nobody). The series opens with the sound of a gunshot and the image of a body being dragged through the woods. Who died? Who was the murderer? How is Orestes and the people he met involved with the killing? Maestro moves through several scenarios – the romantic entanglements (forbidden and scandalous) of the people involved; their past histories (every episode is narrated by a different character); the setup of the festival itself; and the looming mystery of who was killed and why – every episode adds a little more to what happened that night and who was involved. ‘Maestro’ is beautifully filmed, extremely well acted, and a pleasure to watch with all the twists and turns of the plot. The first season ends with a little cliff-hanger – there are still secrets to be unraveled in Season 2.
